Ricky Rios

Coach

Bio

Ricky is a dedicated brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, training under renowned black belts Kevin Danzler and Jonathan Webb. With over a decade of experience on the mats, Ricky has honed a style that blends technical precision with a no-nonsense, real-world approach to self-defense. His journey in jiu-jitsu is rooted in a deep respect for the art’s fundamentals, while always seeking to refine techniques for practical effectiveness outside the gym.

As an instructor, Ricky prioritizes functional self-defense—preparing students for real-life scenarios where awareness, control, and quick decision-making matter most. His classes focus on high-percentage techniques that work under pressure, whether in a street altercation or a competitive match. While his philosophy is grounded in self-protection, Ricky also maintains a strong grasp of modern competition strategy, equipping his students to succeed under various rule sets with a calm, calculated approach.

Ricky is known for his clear instruction, calm demeanor, and ability to adapt techniques for all body types and experience levels. He believes jiu-jitsu should serve as a lifelong tool for physical safety, confidence, and personal growth. Whether coaching someone through their first self-defense scenario or preparing a student for a tournament, Ricky’s mission remains the same: to build capable, resilient grapplers who can apply what they learn in the gym to any challenge life throws their way.
